On Saturday 21st October was the annual Deaf Festival at Parramatta River.

And for the first time ever, we set up a Muslim Deaf Community stall!

Silent Signs, along with Muslim Deaf Association SydneyDeaf Muslim AustraliaDeaf Muslim Wellness and Wellbeing and Sydney Street Dawah worked together to create an amazing stall and raise awareness about Islam and support for Deaf Muslims in Sydney.

What an amazing day that was!

So many people, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, people who are not Deaf and people from different cultures, backgrounds and religions stopped at our stal!

People came to ask us questions about Islam, take home free materials and books, buy our homemade sweets and try on Islamic dress like hijab and men’s cap!

So many people were interacting, learning and socialising with both the deaf and Muslim communities!

Even the brothers from Sydney Dawah team were amazed by the Deaf Culture and it was the first time they meet people with hearing loss and enjoyed learning some sign language!

We raised awareness not just about Islam in the Deaf Community, but also awareness about Deaf culture in our Muslim Community!

We even had Member for Parliament Julie stop at our stall and take a photo with us!

What an amazing day! The first ever Muslim Deaf community stall at the NSW Deaf Festival was a success! So many…
