Based on my personal experiences and the findings from my Honours research, I decided I wanted to do something to raise awareness and promote inclusion for other people like myself.
That is why I started organised and running monthly meetings and gatherings for Muslims and non Muslims with hearing loss. The aim is to allow them to meet others like themselves and learn more about the Deaf culture or Muslim culture or simply to catch up.
We have also conducted specific classes and presentations about things that affect us such as the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Many of my friends who do not have a hearing loss, people interested in disability services or social work, aspiring audiologists and anyone who simply wants to experience a new world, also attend these gatherings. They all learnt so much.
These gatherings are open for all and is a safe space to meet other people and learn more from each other. And it would not have been possible without the continuous support and assistance from Muslim Care Australia, who allow us to use their space.

We had a nice family picnic last week at Muslim Care Australia. Stay tuned for the next event!
